Leicester sketch Club Past & Present - 2015
25th April - 1st August 2015 New Walk Museum & Art Gallery 53 New Walk, Leicester LE1 7EA
I was the exhibition designer and graphic designer for this event which displayed paintings and drawings by current members alongside work from past members selected from the Museum's historic collection dating back to the 1900s.
I was fascinated by the project which involved compiling all available names of past members from the county archives, finding relevant artists in the Museums Collection, research from DMU library archives looking at influential teachers and students from the LSC and talking with people who had personal stories about the past. Enormous thanks to Simon Lake, Claire Cooper and museum team for all their input.
It was interesting to see that Leicester art scene had been so vibrant with connections between LSC, LSA, New Walk Museum and the design industry.
A booklet was compiled showing work by past members which I hope we can share in the future.
The LSC, founded in 1898, has encouraged and inspired local and regional artists for over 100 years, through a series of professional demonstrations, workshops, sketching days and monthly meetings and still going strong.
